UAN Activation: A Complete Guide For Employees

What is UAN?

UAN is a Universal Account Number. It is a unique identification number of 12 digits. It is allotted against the name of every employee. UAN helps employees to keep track of their PF accounts. The UAN authentication is done by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.

When an employee joins a new company then EPFO allows a new member ID. But the UAN of the employee remains the same only the member ID changes. With a single click, an employer can check the employee’s working history, pf contributions etc. Let's Understand the UAN Activation Process.

How to Activate UAN Number?

There are two ways to activate a UAN number :
1. WIth the help of the employer
2. Or by visiting the UAN portal.
Once the UAN is activated an employee can easily check the account balance, withdraw PF(provident fund) amount etc.

Steps to UAN Activation :
You must have your UAN number to activate it. Along with your UAN number, you should have a member ID, Aadhar Number, and PAN. Follow the steps given below :

Step 1. Visit the UAN portal and you will be redirected to the homepage of UAN.

Step 2. Now click on “Activate UAN” and a new page will open.

Step 3. On that page enter your UAN number, Aadhar number, name, date of birth, mobile no., and Captcha code.

Step 4. After filling in your details click on “Get Authorisation Pin”.

Step 5: Your details will display on the new screen. Check the details and make sure all the information is correct.

Step 6: Tick marks the “I Agree” checkbox. You will get the OTP on your mobile no. enter the OTP and then click on ‘Validate OTP and Activate UAN’.

Step 7: After OTP verification you will receive the password on your registered mobile number.

Step 8: After UAN activation, now login by entering the UAN, password. You can also change the password that you have received on your registered mobile number.

Step 9: You need to know your UAN number to change your password.

By following the above steps you can activate your UAN number.

How To Download Your UAN Card?

Before downloading your UAN card you have to be sure about your EPF number. Your EPF number needs to be active and you should have a UAN number and valid password to login to the EPFO portal.

Download your UAN card by following the given steps :

Go to the EPFO website
For EPFO member login go to the member e-Sewa page and enter your UAN number there.
Along with the password enter the captcha code displayed on the screen.
In the case of a UAN member login, click on the “Sign-in” option to see the EPF account page.
After logging in successfully, select “UAN Card” from the “View Section”.
A card will display on your screen that is linked to your account.
Click on the ‘Download’ UNA card from the available options on the screen. Your card will be downloaded.
