  • Domicile By Birth: This DC is issued to a person who was born in that respective state, and this is valid until the person chooses permanent residence in any other state in India. In fact, this certificate is also valid even if the person moves out of state for further education or work.
  • Domicile By Dependence: this certificate was issued to the children or the wives of the person with the DC in the state. As the children or wives are totally eligible to get their DC as their parents or the husbands have the domicile of that respective state.

  • Here the applicants should own a property in the state/ UT.
  • In this applicant's parents must be permanent residents of the state/ UT or the applicant which is must reside in the state /UT for at least three or 15 years which varies according to the state in which it is applied. 
  • The female applicant can apply for the domicile certificate of the state/ UT where the husband resides after marriage.
  • Here is the applicant's name who wants to make their certificate, they must be on the voter’s list of the state/ UT.

  1. First, you have to navigate the website of the state/ UT e-District Portal of the state/ UT.
  2. And then registered on the official website of the state /UT.
  3. After that, you have to log in to the official website of the state/ UT.
  4. And then select the service option and then select the Domiciles certificate. 
  5. After that, you need to fill out the domicile certificate application form, pay the fees (if any), upload the documents, and submit it.

Now, here they will provide you with an acknowledgment number after submitting the application.

How to Apply for a Domicile Certificate Offline?

You can apply for a DC offline by getting the domicile application from the given below government offices:

  • Revenue Office
  • Mamlatdar Office
  • Tahsildar Office
  • Citizen Service Corners
  • District magistrate office or sub-division magistrate 
  • Registrar or the sub-registrar office
  • Collector or the Deputy Collector's office.

So the applicants must fill out the domicile application form and submit the documents and the fees, which are to their respective government offices. And then the officers will issue the acknowledgment number which will be the submission of the form. So the DC within the specified periods is usually 7-15 days.

Document required in Domicile Certificate 

Here are the documents that are required for the DC, as it varies from state to state, so the common list of the documents for the domicile certificates is given below.

Identity Proof

In this list can be any one of the following documents:

  • PAN Card
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Voter Card
  • Passport
  • Driving License
  • Ration Card

Address Proof

In this list can be any one of the following documents:

  • Rent agreement or similar documents
  • Utility bills such as telephone bills, electricity bills, and many more.
  • Bank Passbook

Additional Certificates

Additionally, if they ask for this then you can also give this additional certificate

  • Birth certificate
  • School Leaving Certificate
  • Application form with the self-declaration
  • Two passport-size photographs
  • Affidavit from the tahsildar or Court
