ITC Limited is a significant name in the Indian economy. For those who are not familiar with it then let me shed some light on it for you. I am sure, you must have heard about the brands like Aashirvaad Atta, Classmate, Fiama, Vivel, and Gold Flake.

We all have used products from these brands at some point in our lives. Well, all of these brands and many more belong to ITC.

In this article, we will take a look at the ITC Revenue breakup in 2024 and find out how ITC makes money.

Overview

ITC was established in 1910 and was originally known as Imperial Tobacco Company of India Limited. In 1974, it was renamed to I.T.C. Limited with headquarters in Kolkata, West Bengal.

In 2024, the ITC revenue breakup shows the different sources of revenue. This includes FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods), Hotels, Agri-Business, Paperboards, Packaging, and more. They operate across all the B2B and B2C segments of the market.

1. FMCG

The FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) segment contributes to the largest part of the ITC’s revenue. This is divided into two main areas:

Cigarettes

Being named the tobacco company in its early days, cigarettes are still the biggest contributor to ITC’s profits.

While ITC revenue share from cigarettes is just 38% of overall sales, they generate over 78% (₹30,597cr) of the company’s profits.

  • The major brands of cigarettes include Insignia, India Kings, Classic, Gold Flake, American Club, Wills Navy Cut, Berkeley, Duke & Royal.

  • ITC is also the first company to introduce a flavour-on-demand (Capsule) product in the West Asia region
  • The profit went up from ₹28,207cr in 2023 to ₹30,597cr in the year 2024.

This segment includes all the other FMCG products and makes up 26.6% (₹20,967cr) of overall sales.

  • Brands like Aashirvaad Atta, Sunfeast Dream Cream Biscuits, Bingo!, and Yippee Noodles all come under this category. 
  • Personal care products brands like Fiama, Vivel, and Savlon are also growing fast and adding to the ITC’s income as well.
  • ITC ranks at No. 3 in the foods industry for ESG Performance (Environmental, Social, and Governance)
  • The profit went up from ₹19,123cr in 2023 to ₹20,967cr in the year 2024.

2. Hotels

ITC hotels contribute 3.7% to overall ITC sales, amounting to ₹2,990 crore. This not only helps in generating revenue but also enhances the company’s reputation as well.

  • ITC owns various premium hotels under the name ITC Hotels, Welcomhotel, Fortune Hotels, Welcomheritage, Storii, and Mementos.
  • Recently, ITC Hotels has been awarded the “Best Hotel Brand of the Year” award at the ZeeZest Unlimit Awards 2024.
  • The profit went up from ₹2,585cr in 2023 to ₹2,990cr in the year 2024.

3. Agri-Business

ITC’s agribusiness segment

ITC’s agribusiness segment contributes 20% of overall sales, which amounts to ₹15,792 crores. Being the country’s second-largest exporter of agri-products, there is a great deal of exports and domestic trading. The product categories include: 

  • Feed Ingredients
  • Food Grains
  • Marine Products
  • Processed Fruits
  • Coffee
  • Tobacco Leaf.

However, with increasing health awareness among the people, the leaf tobacco business is dropping. This is why, now they are trying to explore the frozen shrimp and peas market.

The ITC’s agribusiness segment saw a loss where the profit went from ₹18,172cr in 2023 to ₹15,792cr in 2024.

4. Paperboard, Paper & Packaging

ITC is one of the biggest paper manufacturers in India. The paperboards and packaging division alone contributes 10.2% to overall sales which amounts to ₹8,334 crores.

  • The products include paperboard, specialty paper, graphic paper, and others.
  • The business has 3 packaging factories at Tiruvottiyur near Chennai, Munger in Bihar, and Haridwar.
  • ITC has launched a “Wealth Out of Waste” (WOW) initiative to promote and facilitate waste paper recycling.
  • The ITC’s paperboards, paper, and packaging segment also saw a loss where the profit went from ₹9,081cr in 2023 to ₹8,344cr  in 2024.

Final Words

This ITC revenue breakup shows how the company makes money from different sectors. While FMCG remains the biggest income source, other segments like Hotels, agri-businesses, and paperboard and packaging also contribute significantly.

This diversification across several industries has resulted in ITC being one of the major market leaders and an attractive option for investors.
